Description
This collection contains a xerox copy of a letter written in 1863 about camp life in Camden, Arkansas. Also included is a copy of an excerpt about Isaac Rice from Goodspeed's "Northwest Arkansas" history.
Biographical/Historical Note
Isaac Rice was born in Tennessee in 1836, and moved to Benton County, Arkansas with his family in 1842. He became a farmer in Benton County, marrying twice and fathering five children. Rice served as chaplain of the Thirty-fifth Arkansas Infantry in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. After the war, he became the minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Benton County. William F. Patton was Captain, Company F, Thirty-fifth Arkansas Infantry.
