This memorial of Omer Rose Weaver was written by F.T. Vaughn, a member of the Omer R. Weaver Chapter, United Confederate Veterans.

Biographical/Historical Note

Omer Rose Weaver was born to Samuel Montgomery, Sr., and Mary Eliza Rose on February 15, 1837,in Little Rock, Arkansas. He served as a First Lieutenant in Woodruff's Artillery Company, 3rd Arkansas Infantry, State Troops. He was killed at Wilson's Creek on August 10, 1861. Weaver is believed to be the first Arkansan to be killed during the Civil War. After his death, the artillery company changed its name to Weaver Artillery in his honor.
