Comments
Augustus Garland was a giant in Arkansas politics in the 19th century. He came along at a time when the Family, the group of politicians who had controlled Arkansas politics from Territorial days, was in serious decline. It is interesting to see him in this early stage in his career; here he is a young lawyer with his new family. He was just then making a name for himself as a lawyer. He had no idea that he would within the next twenty-five years become governor, United States Senator, and Attorney General of the United States. - Brian Irby
