How often do we think of our ancestors as stern, hard people because they're perpetually frowning in pictures? This picture helps break that perception. These three lovely ladies have radiant smiles and I imagine them being in high spirits at some sort of festival when it was taken. Unfortunately, like many of other photographs in our collection, there is very little context or identifying information that accompanies this beautiful portrait. It's a good reminder to label photos and keep relevant information together. - Meredith McFadden
