Description
This is a petition by Thompson F. Smith to transfer his children from district 24 to district 25.
Biographical/Historical Note
It appears that soon after school district 25 was formed, Thompson F. Smith filed this petition with the court to send his children to district 24 instead, citing the inconvenience of travel to the new school. Smith's land was likely on the edge of the two districts and depending on the available roads travel to one may have been significantly more difficult. A petition like this was necessary, however, because property taxes were divided according to district lines and attendance.
