Description
This is S.M. Prince's school director's oath of office for school district number 23 in Lynn, Arkansas.
Biographical/Historical Note
At this point in Arkansas history, school district directors were elected to serve for two to four years, performing a variety of administrative functions over their term. After certifying the election, the new director then had to go to the county clerk or Justice of the Peace to make this oath. The number of school districts in Lawrence County fluctuated, but averaged around 100 school districts at any given time. Each one needed school directors, making the clerk and JPs very busy after an election.
