Biographical/Historical Note
The Works Progress Administration, which became the Work Projects Administration (WPA), was the largest and most ambitious of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal agencies. The Arkansas Federal Writer's Project was a part of the WPA created to focus on the history of Arkansas as part of the American Guide series. Publications such as these would give points of interest from each state, and covered topics such as agriculture, geography and geology, history, Indians, industry, place names, immigration, and transportation. The Work Projects Administration's final report for Arkansas was completed on March 1, 1943. During its operations, it expended more than $116,000,000 on employment programs, paved over 11,000 miles of roads, built over 600 new public schools, and repaired many others.

2. Were most of them born here or in the old country? Here.
3. In what year was this colony started? 1894
4. Have your people intermarried with Americans, or do you keep
your race clear?
They have recently begun intermarrying.
5. Do your people speak the native language, or have you become
fully Americanized? The older people speak the native
language & the younger ones speak both Slovak
English.
6. Do you observe the old country customs in connection with
marriages, funerals, christenings, etc. To some extent we do.
7. Would you welcome tourists and visitors to see your community? Yes and
if you wish for more information we shall
be glad to give it.
