Description

Color drawing with suggestions for improving the facade. The facade color concept for the Melba Theater is an example of exterior design consultation services provided by Main Street Arkansas to its local programs for the purpose of improving the physical appearance of business buildings and their downtown commercial districts.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Melba Theater was constructed in 1875 as an opera house. A few years later, it was converted into a mercantile store, then eventually remodeled, and reopened in 1940 as one of Arkansas's first CinemaScope theaters.
