Description
This is the 1982 yearbook for the Immanuel Christian Center and Christian School in Tuckerman.
Biographical/Historical Note
The White River District Association was established in 1880. It is a part of the Consolidated Missionary Baptist State Convention of Arkansas, an African American religious organization. The Citizens of Immanuel, in an effort to preserve community history, collected records and other documents of the White River Missionary Baptist Association and yearbooks of Immanuel School. In 1906 the White River District established Immanuel Industrial Institute, a rural boarding school in Almyra, Arkansas County, Arkansas. Although owned by the local Baptist association, the school also received aid and supervision from the county. Immanuel was located on forty acres of land, four miles east of Almyra, and eight miles north of DeWitt, in Arkansas County, Arkansas. The Immanuel High School building (circa 1945), built with Rosenwald Funds, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 24, 2007. John L. Phillips was the last principal to serve at Immanuel when it closed in 1966.
