Biographical/Historical Note

The Raney family, also spelled Rainey and Ranney in various records, are documented among the earliest permanent white settlers in the region, with members of the family documented in Lawrence County, Missouri Territory, as early as 1816. These family Bibles provide genealogical records of the family dating to the late eighteenth century. Descendants of those early settlers still reside in the Lawrence County, Arkansas, area.
