This news clipping from the New York Daily Tribune gives an account of the Civil War Battle of Helena.

Biographical/Historical Note

On July 4, 1863, the Battle of Helena was fought under the Confederate command of Lieutenant General Theophilus Holmes and Union Major General Benjamin Prentiss. The attack of Confederate forces on the Union's Fort Curtis ended in Confederate defeat the same day that Vicksburg fell to the Union.
